Highlight Reel: The Ducks finally get a goal, consolation prize though it be, when Teemu Selanne scores on a power play at 9:11. The key to the goal, though, isn’t the shot. It’s a cross-ice pass, threaded through the Detroit penalty-killing unit, in front of Chris Chelios and Nicklas Lidstrom, behind Kirk Maltby and Kris Draper and onto the tape of Selanne’s stick. Where has this been all night?

It’s Not in the Box Score: At 6:13 Stu Grimson goes after Chelios at the end boards, cuffs him with a left hand and lets him know there’s one Duck who is Mighty enough not to be intimidated by the two-time Stanley Cup defending champions. Anybody think Chelios is intimidated? No, and neither is Detroit’s Darren McCarty, who goes past Chelios and into Grimson, giving up four inches and 25 pounds. When it’s all sorted out, Grimson, Chelios and McCarty are in the penalty box, and Detroit is still ahead, 5-0. Where was all this Duck feistiness in the first period?

Winning Number: Detroit finishes three for nine in power-play opportunities and is four for 15 in the series. The Red Wings have enough of an advantage without being given a man advantages all night.

Wrong Number: The Mighty Ducks outshoot Detroit, 8-7, and have outshot them in the second and third periods in both games of the series. They have been outshot, 18-8 and 17-8, in the first periods, which is one reason they have managed to lead only once, and then only 1-0 for 4:25 of the first game. Anybody believe the Ducks are going to be a comeback team in Round 1?
