Rod Strickland of the Washington Wizards, who came off probation three weeks ago for a driving-while-impaired conviction, was arrested early Saturday on charges of drunk driving and reckless driving.

Strickland was pulled over by police who said his gold Mercedes-Benz was speeding on a District of Columbia street at about 3:45 a.m.

Police said Strickland was charged after he refused to take a Breathalyzer test to determine his blood-alcohol level. He failed a roadside sobriety test, according to police.

Strickland reportedly failed to stop at three red lights and changed lanes without signaling before he was pulled over. At one point, his car straddled two lanes before being stopped.

Strickland was not carrying a driver’s license at the time of his arrest and gave a Mitchellville, Md., address, police said.

Strickland was released on his own recognizance for a May 7 court date.

Strickland was pulled over about six hours after the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Wizards, 89-78, Washington’s fourth loss in a row. The point guard scored 10 points, well below his 15.7 average.

Cleveland Cavalier guard Brevin Knight will miss the rest of the season because of a fractured left hand. Knight had surgery Saturday. Doctors inserted two screws into the hand, which will be kept in a splint. Knight suffered the injury in the third quarter of Friday night’s 79-75 loss at Milwaukee. . . . The Portland Trail Blazers signed guard Gary Grant to a contract for the remainder of the season. The team also put guard Bonzi Wells on the injured list because of asthma and waived forward Nikita Morgunov.
