Strong Winds Cause Few Problems
Gusts approaching 50 mph raced through Southern California on Wednesday but caused few problems in Ventura County.
The winds, which moved southeast from Northern California, were particularly strong along the coast. Wind advisories were in effect through Wednesday evening from San Luis Obispo County south to Los Angeles County.
Harbor patrols in Ventura and Channel Islands Harbor said boats stayed in harbor to avoid the 30 to 40 mph winds.
California Highway Patrol officers were called several times to clear debris blown onto roads, but no accidents were reported because of the wind.
There were few local power failures reported, but about 3,000 Southern California Edison customers in Thousand Oaks, including the sheriff’s east valley station, lost power briefly about 2:45 p.m.
“We had a lot of little stuff--flickering lights--as a result of the wind,” Edison spokesman Mike Montoya said. More power failures were reported in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, he said.
