The city may be forced to cut services after the release of a revised Orange County Fire Authority study that shows Los Alamitos owes $130,000 to the agency. The money to cover the deficit would have to come out of the city’s $6-million general fund, which pays for basic operations such as police, recreation and park maintenance, Mayor Marilynn M. Poe said.
The original study to determine whether each member city is paying an equitable amount for county firefighting services showed Los Alamitos was paying its fair share. But the council learned last week that the authority’s consulting firm arrived at that conclusion using inaccurate data. The new figures show the city owes $130,000, which could pay for at least one police car and officer, City Manager Robert Dominguez said.
