Opportunities for Volunteering

The Volunteer Center Assistance League of Southern California is seeking doctors and nurses for an educational wilderness camp in the San Bernardino Mountains for kids with the HIV virus. Social workers and counselors are also needed; training is provided. Volunteers are also needed to give monthly talks about good nutrition, grocery shopping and simple cooking techniques at the Harbour, a North Hollywood home for people recovering from mental illness. The San Fernando Valley Counseling Center is seeking counselors. The East Valley Multipurpose Senior Center needs volunteers for its office and departments of nutrition and immigration and citizenship. People are also needed to teach classes in learning the Internet, painting, drawing, arts and crafts, exercise and quilting. Jewish Family Services of Los Angeles needs volunteers at its Valley Storefront Multipurpose Center for Seniors. Volunteers work one on one with senior citizens, helping them find services and counseling them. Training is provided. Participants are expected to volunteer one day a week for at least a year. The American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles is seeking leadership volunteers to coordinate the Community Disaster Education Program. Participants distribute disaster information and supervise trained volunteers at 2700 Wilshire Blvd. The office also needs help with record keeping at its Disaster Office.
