Gerald Chaleff
Re “Defense Attorney Chaleff to Lead Police Commission,” July 28: Having watched (and on occasion worked with) Gerald Chaleff over the years in his many effective, dedicated and valuable services to the L.A. County Bar Assn. (including his service as president), I believe the city is fortunate to have him as president of the Police Commission. He will be balanced, evenhanded, tireless and skilled in working under pressure and with persons holding divergent views.
His many years as a criminal defense attorney give him a special knowledge of the LAPD, as they would if he were a prosecutor, as was the new inspector general of the LAPD. In Chaleff’s hands that knowledge will be put to good use for the LAPD and the community.
