Fire Department Wrongly Reported Drowning of Boy

A Santa Ana toddler was recovering Thursday at Western Medical Center-Anaheim after nearly drowning in his family’s pool the night before.

Fire authorities had incorrectly reported that Brandon Patrick, 2, had died Wednesday. The Fire Department apologizes for causing the family additional pain, spokesman Capt. Scott Brown said.

Emergency crews had responded to a 911 call at his home in unincorporated Santa Ana. The child, who apparently has Down syndrome, was found unconscious and in cardiac arrest. He was transported to the hospital. His parents have requested that no information on his condition be released, a hospital nursing supervisor said.
