Missionaries Back From Ukraine

* Several missionaries, led by Nita Hanson of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Thousand Oaks, recently returned from Ukraine, where they ministered to orphans and the disabled. They also put on a vacation Bible school at the Boys’ House Orphanage and Cerebral Palsy Center.

The mission team included Diane and Erin Venable, Jack Coffey, Hannah Collins and Marilyn van Leeuwen, all of Ventura County.

Musicians to Perform at St. Paul’s

* Guest musicians at the Sunday worship service at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Oxnard will include the Williams twins: Janis Crum and Joanne Parker, who will sing and play the electric Hawaiian guitar and Spanish guitar. Louise Bergmann will play the organ.

The service begins at 10:15 a.m.

Guest Speaker at AME Church

* Norma Solomon White will be the guest speaker at the annual Men and Women’s Day Program at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Oxnard on Sunday.

White, international president of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, will speak on the topic of Christ-centered men and women preparing for a new millennium. She is a retired school district administrator.

On Aug. 7, a community reception hosted by the Xi Kappa Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha will introduce White to the community at the Tower Club in Oxnard from 7 to 9 p.m.

Alpha Kappa Alpha is the first Greek letter organization established by and for African-American women.

Classes to Explain Bahai Faith

* The Bahai communities of Ventura County invite the public to a series of “Bahai 101” introductory classes on the faith on Monday and Aug. 16, 23 and 30.

The one-hour sessions will be held at 7:30 p.m. at 1889 Montgomery Ave., Ventura.

After a brief description of the Bahai perspective on current events, the course will conclude with the vision that members of the faith share for the future, member Pete Quick said.

Church Plans Concert, Picnic

* Emmanuel Presbyterian Church of Thousand Oaks invites the community to its fourth annual concert and Picnic on the Green on Aug. 14. Bring a picnic basket, chairs or blanket at 5:30 p.m. for the picnic.

Camerata Pacifica, a 10-member classical music ensemble from Santa Barbara, will perform in the church sanctuary at 7 p.m. after the picnic.

Pianist at Unity Center Service

* Pianist Estaban will play inspirational music at the Unity Center Church service at 10 a.m. Aug. 15 in Thousand Oaks.
