New President Named at Encino Counseling School
Phillips Graduate Institute, one of the oldest and largest counseling training centers in the San Fernando Valley, has hired a president to replace Edwin F. Cox, who led the college for 25 years.
Lisa M. Porche-Burke, a long-time educator and former chancellor of the California School of Professional Psychology, will take the helm of the nonprofit Encino school, it was announced Friday. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from USC and master’s and doctorate degrees from Notre Dame.
The institute, at 5445 Balboa Blvd., offers graduate degrees in family therapy, organizational behavior and school counseling and will pay Porche-Burke $125,000 a year, said Vice President Ellen Faulk.
Phillips, initially named the American Institute of Family Relations, was created in the 1940s.
It trains 300 graduate students annually and treats 300 patients a week.
