TIMES STAFF AND WIRES

New York City summer visitors, be forewarned: Much of Rockefeller Center is being renovated, and almost every store and many restaurants are closed; scaffolding is everywhere. Still operating: NBC’s “Today” show studio, which attracts a large crowd each day. Radio City will reopen in October, and the Rainbow Room is expected to begin serving meals again in a few months. . . . Walt Disney World in Florida last week debuted its latest thrill ride, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, which features a high-speed-launch (0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds) roller coaster with three inversions, rock-concert lighting, a blaring soundtrack by Aerosmith--and images of Hollywood. . . . Call it “adventure dining”: For $200 per person, McCormick & Schmick’s Harborside Restaurant in Seattle will fly you to the nearby San Juan Islands, where you pick out local shellfish for dinner, and fly you back to the restaurant, where your “catch” becomes part of your five-course meal. For $50 more, they’ll pair Northwest wines with each course. Reservations: tel. (206) 270-9052.
