A 17-year-old male suspect pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and attempted murder at an arraignment Tuesday in connection with the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy Friday.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Joe D’Agostino said a 16-year-old male suspect who was also arrested and charged in the death of Jason Segovia, 15, of Placentia will be arraigned at the Juvenile Justice Center in Orange on Aug. 20.

Segovia was in the back seat of a parked car with three other passengers in the 800 block of Tafolla Street when the two suspects rode up on bicycles and sprayed the car with bullets, police said.

The other passengers were not injured. They drove Segovia to his home at La Jolla Street and Arnold Drive, where he died after paramedics tried to resuscitate him.

Segovia and the two suspects were identified as gang members by the district attorney’s office and the Placentia Police Department.

The names of the suspects have not been released because they are juveniles. A hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 30 to determine if both will be tried as adults.
