The son of an LAPD sergeant was arrested Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of shooting his brother-in-law several times during an argument at the policeman’s Moorpark home, authorities said.

Paul Myers, 30, was taken into custody shortly after 4 p.m. outside his father’s hillside home in Moorpark, said Eric Nishimoto, a spokesman for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

The motive for the shooting was unclear, but several neighbors said they heard the men arguing in an open garage about a video game before shots were fired.

The victim, 26-year-old Jason Weaver, was in critical condition Wednesday night at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks.

Myers is the son of James “Jim” N. Myers, a sergeant assigned to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Division in Northridge, authorities said. Jim Myers was apparently not home when the shooting occurred.

According to authorities, Paul Myers and Weaver had an argument inside the home’s three-car garage before Myers allegedly shot Weaver several times.

At the time of the shooting, Jim Myers’ wife, Bonnie Myers, was home with two young boys believed to be her grandchildren. It was unclear if there were additional witnesses, but Bonnie Myers did go into the garage after Weaver was shot, neighbors said.
