Al Schwartz of Moorpark has been installed as president of the California Veterinary Medical Assn., the largest state veterinary association in the nation. He is chief veterinarian and owner of Moorpark Veterinary Hospital.

Schwartz is also a member of the Santa Barbara-Ventura County Veterinary Medical Assn., the American Veterinary Medical Assn. and the American Animal Hospital Assn.

* Mercury Software Solutions in Ventura has hired two new associates. Craig Buckland will be the technical services manager, and Ronwen Proust is the marketing/sales manager.

* Linda Meyer has joined IPSA International as national insurance director. She will conduct workers’ compensation operations from the company’s Ventura office.

IPSA, a division of Oakland-based American Protective Services, provides security services such as investigations, background checks, robbery suppression and executive protection.

* Judy Sheggrud has been appointed customer service manager for the Ventura office of Santa Barbara Bank & Trust. She has 25 years of experience in the financial services industry and was most recently branch manager for Bank of America in Ventura.

* Bank of Ventura has recognized Sheri Gold as the top employee for the first quarter of 1999. A nine-year veteran of the banking industry, she is a new-accounts representative for the bank.

* Dr. David R. Shapiro of Ventura was among surgeons who served as clinical investigators for an FDA study on the safety of the LASIK laser vision correction procedure. The Food and Drug Administration has recommended that the procedure progress toward on-label status, which carries the government agency’s endorsement.

Shapiro has taught the technique to more than 1,000 eye surgeons.
