A local team won the weekend’s surfing competition, a fund-raiser for cleaner water that had been postponed for a week because of an elevated bacteria count in the water. The Harbor Team competed in the Ray Bay Classics with 10 other teams, including the mayor’s two teams--Heal the Waves, a team of physicians from St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, and the Eight Amigos, which included council member Shawn Boyd and City Atty. Quinn Barrow. The competition raised more than $3,000 for the Surfrider Foundation and the lifeguards, and it highlighted an environmental message as well as being fun, said Mayor Paul Yost, who caught the first wave of the contest.
