Canine Company: My wife and I will often take our bikes and our Australian shepherd up to Runyon Canyon Park at the base of the Hollywood Hills just north of Hollywood Boulevard.

Hawg Heaven: I recently bought a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. You have a more acute sense of your environment when you’re riding a motorcycle. You realize how beautiful Southern California is. There are so many driving options here. You can go up to the desert, up to the mountains or up the coast. It’s a very strong impetus for us to get out and see what’s around us. I’m from Milwaukee, where they make Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Dad had one. Grandpa had one. So it’s in the blood.

Picking the Ponies: Going to Santa Anita Race Track in Arcadia is fun. My wife picks horses based on their color and the jockey’s last name and does amazingly well. It’s a great place to people-watch. There’s a great restaurant-bar nearby called the Derby on East Huntington Drive in Arcadia. You’ll find a lot of senior citizens having scotch and steak there.

Raw Fish Required: We’ll usually start a Saturday night on our perpetual quest for the perfect piece of sushi. We really enjoy Tenmasa, which is on Sunset Boulevard near Doheny Drive, and Sushi Roku, which is on 3rd Street east of La Cienega Boulevard. When you find really good fresh sushi your eyes roll back in your head and you usually fall out of your chair. That’s what we’re going for.

Leisurely Living: Sunday mornings are partly devoted to putting more butt-shaped dents in the couch. You start out with a pot of coffee and the newspaper. We’ll oftentimes head out for brunch at Mel’s diner on Sunset Boulevard.

Hollywood Nights: The Viper Room and the Rainbow Bar & Grill on Sunset Boulevard are favorite neighborhood bars. We just enjoy a place with a good feel to it where we’re just able to get past the velvet rope. The Viper Room has a pretty good mix of music. Some nights they’ll have live bands; other nights there will just be a deejay. Usually, it’s very loud.
