Original Art for New ‘Madeline’ to Be on Display

“The Art of Madeline in America,” an exhibition of original art from a new book starring Ludwig Bemelmans’ beloved creation, will begin Dec. 11 at the Every Picture Tells a Story gallery in Los Angeles.

“Madeline in America,” published by Arthur A. Levine Books, a division of Scholastic Press, is the result of recently discovered works by Bemelmans: an unpublished manuscript and pencil drawings. His grandson, painter John Bemelmans Marciano, completed the story, which is about Madeline and her friends on a surprising tour of the Wild West.

The book also includes two holiday tales from the Bemelmans archive: “The Count and the Cobbler” and “Sunshine.”
