Ray Carrasco of Irvine shot seven-over 79 in the third round of the Senior PGA Tour qualifying tournament in Tucson and withdrew because he aggravated a shoulder injury during the round. He was 19 strokes behind leader Mark Hayes.

Gustavo Tapia, a lightweight from Santa Ana, won a unanimous decision in the eight-round main event before 1,385 at the Irvine Marriott. Tapia (8-9-2) defeated Jose Reynoso (8-8-2) of Mexico.

Newport Beach’s Taylor Dent reached the quarterfinals of the USTA Futures tournament in Laguna Niguel with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Emin Agaev of Azerbaijan. Dent, ranked 300 on the ATP computer and seeded second, will meet Fresno’s Robert Kendrick.
