Santa Lucia Christmas Festival

The Santa Lucia Christmas Festival will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Samuelson Chapel at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.

This Swedish tradition has been a part of Cal Lutheran’s Christmas celebration since the university’s early years. Santa Lucia, a Christian martyr who died Dec. 13 in 304, is remembered in the Festival of Lights.

Each year the Cal Lutheran community selects five women to represent Santa Lucia and her maidens and five men to represent wise men. The representatives are selected by Cal Lutheran’s student body as those who represent the Christian attributes demonstrated by Santa Lucia--faith, hope, charity and compassion for humanity. The ceremony includes the lighting of Santa Lucia’s crown of candles and is performed each year as a reminder of the spirit of the holiday season.

Admission is free. For more information, call 493-3151.
