L.A. County’s Christmas Eve Celebration

The traditional L.A. County Holiday Celebration at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on Christmas Eve will offer a six-hour, admission-free, parking-free entertainment this year, utilizing the talents of 34 performing arts groups from the county.

Scheduled from 3 to 9 p.m., the program will be broadcast live on KCET, with repeats scheduled on Dec. 25 and 26.

Among the groups, representing 21 communities, scheduled to perform are: 20 choruses from different ethnic backgrounds; a 50-foot dragon composed of 80 members of the Chinese American Dancing Group; two ballet troupes dancing excerpts from “The Nutcracker”; two choruses presenting gospel music; world beat organizations presenting reggae-Hannukah music, traditional Japanese taiko drumming, St. Lucy’s Christmas Big Band, and a finale by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles and Vox Femina Los Angeles.

A production of the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and KCET, the program has been given in Chandler Pavilion since it opened in December 1964.
