SANTA CLARITA — A woman’s car was struck by a slow-moving Metrolink train Friday after she purposely abandoned the vehicle on the tracks, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
The woman was not injured. “She placed the car there on purpose,” said Sgt. Steve Gurlitz of the Santa Clarita station. “The train had slowed to about 5 mph.”
Although the woman’s motives were unclear, sheriff’s investigators said it could have been an aborted suicide attempt.
The woman was not identified.
Officials said the train, with about 150 passengers aboard, was heading toward Los Angeles at about 70 mph when the engineer saw the vehicle and slowed the train.
