It’s One of Those Love-Hate Deals

Bill Plaschke, your recent throat-slashing of Kobe Bryant [Dec. 3] has appalled me. I find it hard to believe that you do not have something personal against this kid, who has shown nothing but class, on and off the court. I know, Prof. Jackson will have no problem mixing this team in time for you to jump on the bandwagon by the All-Star game (that Kobe will be starting). Obviously, you’ve failed to notice that neither Delmer nor Kurt is at the helm, but rather the best coach in the NBA today.

I still fail to understand why fans are so taken with Kobe Bryant. I have seen him play and don’t understand what is so impressive about him. Sure, he has great potential but also has poor fundamentals. His defense is at best mediocre, his shot selection atrocious and his ability to blend in a team system nonexistent.

To me, Kobe is at best a gifted playground player. He has the ability to make spectacular plays, but that’s about the size of it.
