MTA Buses, Metro Rail to Offer Free Holiday Rides

LOS ANGELES — On New Year’s Eve and Christmas Eve, passengers will ride free on Metropolitan Transportation Authority buses and Metro Rail lines.
Free rides will run from 9 p.m. Dec. 24 through 5 a.m. on Christmas.
On Dec. 31, free rides will run from 11 a.m. through 5 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
“The extension of free transit service will provide participants . . . with convenient, safe and efficient alternatives to driving to events,” an MTA statement said.
Train service will not be available as late as some bus lines. On Dec. 31, late night operating hours will be extended on 33 MTA bus lines, and operating hours for the Metro Rail system will be extended to 2 a.m.
Metro Rail service hours on Christmas Eve will not be extended past the normal operating times.
