Andre Larry of Cal State Northridge, who had 23 points and eight rebounds in a 79-77 victory over Oregon on Saturday, was selected Big Sky Conference player of the week.

Larry, a 6-foot-9 senior forward from Compton, had eight points and six rebounds in a 72-59 victory over Oral Roberts.

While the Cal State Northridge basketball team has posted impressive upset victories at Fresno State and Oregon the last two weeks, one part of the Matadors’ game that has been unimpressive is free-throw shooting.

Quite frankly, the Matadors have been dismal, shooting 53.5% from the line.

Guard Marco McCain has made six of seven and guard Craig Calloway has made two free throws in as many attempts. But no other player is shooting better than 70% from the line.

Among the most disappointing is forward Jeff Parris, who has made only 13 of 34 (38.2%). That could spell trouble for Northridge this season, considering Parris’ penetration style of play results in his being fouled more than any other Matador.

“He’s had terrible form his whole life,” Coach Bobby Braswell said. “That’s Jeff. But it seems every time we need them, he makes them. It’s just something we have to deal with.”

Northridge plays next week at Oral Roberts on Monday and Texas-El Paso on Wednesday.

Northridge beat Oral Roberts, 72-59, at Northridge on Dec. 6. Center Paul Brandt, a 6-10 senior from Thousand Oaks, was held scoreless by Northridge.

Kahlsdorf is a 6-5 offensive lineman and Gelt is a 6-3 receiver. Each is majoring in engineering and has a 3.7 grade-point average.
