* LOYOLA MARYMOUNT (1-6) at LONG BEACH STATE (4-3), 7:30, KXLU-FM (88.9), KPLS-AM (830)--The struggling Lions have dropped six in a row, and seven looks like a strong possibility tonight. Loyola Marymount is shooting less than 35%. In the Lions’ last loss, an 84-58 setback at Texas El Paso, they shot 37.9%, their third-best total of the season. The 49ers are riding a wave as high as the Lions’ is low, having defeated USC on Thursday. After losing twice in Syracuse earlier this month, Long Beach State has won two in a row and is getting solid play from its big men. Against the Trojans, center Mate Milisa and power forward James Williams both had double-doubles, Milisa scoring 15 points with 11 rebounds and Williams scoring 14 and grabbing 10 rebounds. --SCOTT MOE

* UC IRVINE (4-2) at CALIFORNIA (5-2), 8, KUCI-FM (88.9)--Irvine, which beat up on Division II Western Washington Tuesday night, won’t find things so easy against the Golden Bears. The Anteaters’ biggest problem will be slowing down Sean Lampley, a 6-7 forward who is averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Golden Bears are young, with five freshmen getting playing time. Jerry Green leads Irvine in scoring, averaging 19 points. But forward Marek Ondera has been a key player. He leads the team in rebounds (8.2) and is averaging 11 points.
