Patients Warned to Repeat Mammograms

LOS ANGELES — Patients who got mammograms from a mobile facility in Los Angeles between Nov. 1, 1997, and Nov. 17 of this year need to have repeat examinations as a result of poor X-ray quality, a state agency warned Wednesday.
According to the California Department of Health Services, patients who got mammograms from the Levin CGR Mobile Mammogram facility at 231 W. Vernon Ave. should be reexamined.
Its administrator, Nelquian Woods, has been ordered by the state agency to stop performing mammograms.
More than 70% of the mammograms that he did were found to be of such poor quality that breast cancer would not have been detected, according to the state.
Low-cost mammograms are available through the county Department of Health Services by calling (800) 427-8700 during regular business hours.
