The Philadelphia Flyers have been one of the league’s best teams in the 1990s. But not at New Jersey.

The Devils defeated the Flyers, 3-2, Wednesday night, improving to 21-5-2 at home against the Flyers in the ‘90s.

The Devils’ Patrik Elias had two goals and an assist to give him five goals in his last five games after going 12 games without a goal.

“Those 12 games I felt really good about my game,” Elias said. “I had a lot of chances, I guess I just wasn’t focusing enough. A couple of lucky bounces and it’s going in. I hope I keep it going.”

Detroit 4, Carolina 1--Brendan Shanahan scored a goal and assisted on another in the first period as the Red Wings defeated the Hurricanes at Raleigh, N.C., for their fifth victory in six games.

Florida 3, Atlanta 3--Andrew Brunette scored with 43 seconds left in regulation as the Thrashers rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the third period for a tie with the Panthers at Sunrise, Fla.

Vancouver 6, Washington 3--Steve Kariya celebrated his 22nd birthday with two goals as the Canucks ended a seven-game winless streak with a victory over the Capitals at Vancouver, Canada.
