First Team

JEFF ARNOLD -- St. Francis, Senior

* Arnold, after struggling at the end of his junior track season, had a strong cross-country campaign, winning his second consecutive Mission League title, finishing third in the Southern Section Division IV final and 26th in the state meet.

JASON LANNING -- Buena, Senior

* The Channel League champion produced the two best races of his career in the Division I finals of the Southern Section and state championships. He placed sixth in a section final that was the most talent-rich of the decade and was 15th in the state meet.

LUKE LLAMAS -- Canyon, Sophomore

* The only sophomore on the all-region team might be an NCAA Division I prospect if he ever decides to put running ahead of soccer. As it was, he placed second in the Foothill League final and 18th in the Southern Section Division I final for the No. 1-ranked team in the region.

SETH NEUMULLER -- Thousand Oaks, Senior

* Neumuller, a repeat first-team selection, struggled during the first half of the season, but placed third in the Ventura County championships, won his second consecutive Marmonte League title, placed ninth in the Southern Section Division I final and 33rd in the state meet.

MARK NEVERS -- Oak Park, Junior

* The top runner on a team that was ranked first in the region for much of the season, Nevers placed second in the Ventura County championships for the second year in a row, was runner-up in the Southern Section Division IV final and finished third in the state meet. He is a another repeat selection.

JOSH SPIKER -- Ventura, Senior

* Spiker was a slam dunk for runner of the year honors for the second time in a row until a stress fracture in his lower right leg ended his season after he set a course record of 14:53 in the Ventura County championships. His 14:42 clocking in the Mt. SAC Invitational moved him to sixth on the all-time course list and was the fastest on that layout since 1990.

Second Team

RYAN BURNETT -- La Canada, Senior

* The Rio Hondo League champion was a surprise winner of the Division III sweepstakes race in the Mt. SAC Invitational and placed 13th in the state final. After being considered a potential winner in the section final, he finished a disappointing 14th-place.

ROBERTO CONTRERAS -- Nordhoff, Junior

* The Frontier League champion placed fifth in the Ventura County championships and Southern Section Division IV final, and was eighth in the state meet.

GERMAIN ORTIZ -- Monroe, Senior

* The Valley Mission League champion placed sixth in the City Section final to help Monroe place second to Belmont and qualify for the state championships for the first time since the meet began in 1987.

RUBEN RUIZ -- Birmingham, Senior

* The West Valley League champion didn’t finish the season as strongly as he started it, but placed 12th in the City final to help Birmingham finish third.

MIKE SUMME -- Canyon, Senior

* Summe placed third in the Foothill League final and 33rd in the Southern Section Division I final in which 43 runners broke 16 minutes at Mt. SAC.

ERIK WACKENSTEDT -- Oak Park, Senior

* The runner-up in the Tri-Valley League final placed seventh in the Ventura County championships, 14th in the Southern Section Division IV final and 20th in the state meet.

NICK ZOETEWEY -- Saugus, Junior

* Zoetewey failed to qualify for the Southern Section Division I final, but did win the Foothill League title, defeating Llamas, Summe and Thomas Harley of Burbank in the process.
