Quakes Felt in Northern and Southern Calif.

Earthquakes in the magnitude 4 range were felt in both Northern and Southern California near mid-day Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. Neither caused damage or injuries.

The first quake, at 11:41 a.m., measured 4.2 and was centered just off the North Coast, two miles northwest of Punta Gorda and 38 miles southwest of Eureka.

The second, at 12:21 p.m., measured 4.0 and was another aftershock of the Oct. 16 Hector Mine quake in the Mojave Desert. This latest of thousands of aftershocks was centered 13 miles northwest of the hamlet of Ludlow.
