Suspect Sought in Slaying of Driver at Red Light
Authorities continued their investigation Tuesday into a car-to-car shooting that left a 19-year-old Paramount man dead.
Wilfred Phillips was stopped at a red light at Garfield and Rosecrans avenues about 9:10 p.m. Sunday when a white, four-door sedan with tinted windows pulled up next to him, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Craig Melvin.
One of the sedan’s two passengers got out, walked over to Phillips’ car and fired several rounds from a handgun, hitting Phillips in the upper body, Melvin said. The gunman returned to the late-model sedan, which sped westbound on Rosecrans, he said.
Phillips was pronounced dead at St. Francis Medical Center.
Detectives are unsure of a motive for the attack and asked that anyone with information call Melvin at (323) 890-5500.
