Pact With Developer for NFL Deal Scrapped

The City Council has unanimously approved terminating an exclusive negotiating agreement with a development firm that had sought to bring a professional football team to Anaheim.

In September, the council and Newport Beach developer Capital Pacific Holdings entered into an agreement for the proposed construction of a football stadium, obtaining a National Football League franchise to play its home games in the stadium and a plan for a mixed urban development.

Tuesday’s termination of the agreement allows the city to explore football stadium and NFL franchise opportunities with other parties, city officials said.
