Authorities are investigating an early morning home-invasion robbery that ended with the stabbing of a 34-year-old man Thursday, deputies said.

Michael Stevens called 911 about 7:30 a.m. to report a man and woman had broken into his Floral Drive home, burglarized the house and then beat and stabbed him, authorities said.

Deputies at the scene found Stevens with several stab wounds to his torso. He was conscious and talking to deputies but was unable to answer questions, authorities said.

Stevens was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. He was listed in critical condition Thursday evening.

As of late Thursday it was unclear whether anything had been taken from Stevens’ home.

Stevens’ estranged wife was arrested on unrelated drug charges after she drove to her husband’s home in his Dodge pickup truck about 10:20 a.m., Sheriff’s Sgt. Chuck Buttell said.

Authorities declined to identify either the woman or a man who was riding in the truck with her.

“She was not supposed to be driving the truck,” Buttell said. “They returned to the house, and when they saw [deputies] they turned around and left.”

Deputies followed the truck and pulled it over at Ventura Avenue and McKee Street, where the woman and man were both arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of methamphetamine, Buttell said.

Before being booked into jail, Stevens’ wife and her friend were questioned about the home-invasion robbery, Buttell said.
