Virginia’s Oak Hill Tops Compton Dominguez

Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy squeaked past Compton Dominguez, 60-56, in front of a capacity crowd of 3,500 in the Nike Extravaganza late Saturday at Cal State Fullerton.

The victory wasn’t secure for Oak Hill until guard Cliff Hawkins, who had 16 points, drove the lane and scored on a jumper with 28 seconds remaining to give Oak Hill (26-0) a 58-54 lead.

Travis Watson, a 6-7 forward who is going to Virginia, added the exclamation point with a dunk with five seconds remaining for Oak Hill.

Dominguez (21-3) helped keep the score close with its tough pressure defense that held Oak Hill to 34% field-goal shooting.

Steve Moore led Dominguez with 14 points and point guard Marcus Moore had six assists. Center Tyson Chandler, a 7-foot sophomore, had five points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots.

Ronald Slay, a 6-7 forward who is going to Tennessee, had 12 points for Oak Hill.
