Cultural Performance to Aid Vietnam Flood Victims

Share

Vietnamese singers, dancers and martial arts experts will be featured in a charity performance Saturday at Cal State Northridge to benefit flood victims in Vietnam.

The event, which begins at 7 p.m. in the Student Union, will also mark Vietnamese New Year.

Organized by the United Vietnamese Community Assn. of San Fernando Valley, the goal is to raise $3,000 to $4,000 to send to the Vietnamese cities most in need of emergency assistance. Admission to the concert is $20.

“Over 100,000 people [were] injured and lost their houses,” said Richard Truong, president of the organization. Food and medicine are badly needed, he said.

The show will feature 20 singers, 20 dancers and about 40 martial arts experts performing Vietnamese-based martial arts, including Kienan Do Kung Fu.

“We have very good shows and people want to watch it,” Truong said. “Besides a good show, they are contributing to flood victims.”

Central Vietnam was badly flooded late last year when a typhoon-level storm killed about 250 people and injured more than 1,000.
