Saugus Ends Hart’s Streak at 47

Leslie Johnson and Lexi Phelps each scored six points in the fourth quarter to help Saugus High end Hart’s 47-game Foothill League winning streak with a 39-33 upset Thursday night at Saugus.

Johnson finished with 12 points. Phelps, in her third game back from a broken foot, converted a three-point play to tie the score, 31-31, with four minutes left.

Saugus (10-13, 4-6) outscored the Indians, 8-2, the rest of the way. It was the Centurions’ first victory over Hart since a 42-22 triumph in 1980.

“They just played with more energy,” said Hart Coach Dave Munroe. “This was [Saugus’] playoff.”

Brusta Brown added nine points for Saugus. The Centurions trailed, 24-23, after three quarters, but outscored the Indians, 16-9, to end a three-game losing streak.

Hart (15-9, 9-1), which got 13 points from Christina Sanchez and 12 from Briana Kentfield, played without guard Renee Reyna, who sat out because of illness.

The Indians, ranked No. 10 in the region by The Times, had already clinched their seventh consecutive Foothill championship and had won 71 of their previous 72 league games.

Crescenta Valley 72, Arcadia 43--Sinnamonn Garrett had 17 points and 10 of the Falcons’ 60 rebounds in a Pacific League victory at Crescenta Valley.

Kristina Alvero had 15 points and nine rebounds for Crescenta Valley (22-4, 9-1), which finished tied for first with Muir. The Falcons, ranked No. 3, won the league title outright the three previous seasons.

St. Bonaventure 65, La Reina 39--Stacey Howard and Shannon Fink combined to score 16 of St. Bonaventure’s 20 third-quarter points and the Seraphs (15-9, 8-2) wrapped up their second consecutive Tri-Valley League championship.

Howard finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Fink had 19 points.

The league title was the Seraphs’ third in girls’ basketball. St. Bonaventure will take a four-game winning streak into the playoffs next week.

Nordhoff 42, Santa Clara 34--Christen Roper had 20 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks for host Nordhoff (12-14, 8-0) in a Frontier League victory over Santa Clara (10-11, 5-3).

Crossroads 68, Campbell Hall 39--Michelle Moore scored 25 points for Crossroads (24-2, 10-0) in a Delphic League game at Campbell Hall (17-6, 7-3).
