Illegal Defenses an Early Problem

Share

For the 10th time this season, the Clippers were called for illegal defense when they picked up one in the first half against Minnesota on Sunday night at the Sports Arena.

It’s a problem that Coach Chris Ford blames on the team’s lack of communication on the floor. In their overtime loss to Phoenix on Saturday, the Clippers cost themselves with their second illegal defense, which gave the Suns a key free throw down the stretch.

“That’s one of the things [that’s been a problem],” Ford said. “We have guys trying to help their teammate but they don’t talk.”

Minnesota’s Kevin Garnett, who had 24 points and 11 rebounds, did not sound too sad when asked if he’s going to miss playing in the Sports Arena next season when the Clippers move into the Staples Center.

“I’ve had some memorable moments in here,” he said. “But at the same time, it would be nice to have some hot water in the showers.”

The Clippers shot 37% against the Timberwolves and had 15 turnovers with only 10 assists. . . . Backup center Keith Closs saw his first action of the season and had four points and three rebounds.
