Fountain Valley officials recognized Shirley Chambers’ 16 years of service to the Police Department’s parking control unit at the Feb. 2 City Council meeting. “If you meet Shirley professionally, you will not cherish the encounter,” Mayor John Collins said. “She has written over 100,000 tickets for people parked in the wrong place.” Chambers began her work in 1982 and has logged more than 500,000 miles on city streets as a parking control officer.

“I know every little nook and cranny of Fountain Valley,” she said. She is also the last person to hold the parking control position. Parking control officers have been converted to police service aides and now have other functions besides ticketing cars.
