Douglas Listed as Day to Day

Veteran point guard Sherman Douglas did not need anyone to tell him that he had to get into better shape when he signed as a free agent with the Clippers a day before the regular season began earlier this month.

Douglas slowly was getting back into game shape before one of his worst fears was realized Tuesday night. In the Clippers’ double overtime loss to Vancouver, he suffered a groin injury, which forced him to sit out the fourth quarter and the overtimes.

He did some light stretching and rode a stationary bike on Thursday, hoping that the injury is not too serious. He’s listed as day to day but acknowledges that his is the type of nagging injury that players often get in training camp.

“Once you haven’t played in a while and then to be thrown into it [regular season play], you know injuries can occur,” Douglas said.

Coach Chris Ford said that if Douglas cannot play Saturday against Dallas, veteran Pooh Richardson will back up starter Darrick Martin.

James Robinson was one of the first players off the bench in the first five games of the season but the shooting guard did not play in Tuesday’s loss to Vancouver. Ford said that it wasn’t because of Robinson’s team-low shooting percentage, 31%.

“I just didn’t go in that direction,” Ford said. “Some nights, some guys may not get in the rotation, but he’ll get used.”

Starting shooting guard Eric Piatkowski also sat out practice because of an ankle sprain, but he’s expected to play Saturday.
