LANCASTER — Authorities on Sunday identified the driver accused of hitting a 15-year-old girl and then leaving the scene of the accident.
Paul A. Gerse, 51, was arrested Saturday on one charge of felony drunk driving in connection with the 2:45 p.m. accident on Elizabeth Lake Road west of Ranch Club Road, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Todd Powers.
Sheriff’s officials allege that Gerse, a Lake Hughes resident, was driving a pickup that tried to illegally pass a car on the right and struck the girl, who was riding her bicycle.
The girl, whose identity was not released, was in the intensive-care unit of Antelope Valley Hospital, according to a county fire official. A hospital spokesman declined to release her condition.
