Court to Allow Simpson Hearing

The California Supreme Court cleared the way Wednesday for a new hearing to determine whether O.J. Simpson or the parents of his slain ex-wife should have custody of his children.

A Court of Appeal had previously ruled that Orange County Superior Court Judge Nancy Wieben Stock, before granting Simpson custody of his two children, should have considered evidence that he may have beaten and ultimately killed his ex-wife. The high court unanimously, without comment, declined to review that decision.

The children, Sydney, 13, and Justin, 10, have lived with their father for the last two years while Juditha and Lou Brown, their maternal grandparents, filed appeals.

A criminal jury acquitted Simpson of the 1994 Brentwood slayings of his ex-wife and her friend, Ronald L. Goldman, but a civil jury later found Simpson responsible and ordered him to pay the survivors monetary damages. The children have asked to stay with their father.
