Streaky Gabriel Hjertstedt’s on-again, off-again game propelled him into the lead of the Tucson Open on Friday, then deserted him at the end.

The 27-year-old Swede, who missed the cut in three of five previous tournaments this year, birdied six holes on the difficult back nine at Tucson National, but lost his touch after the turn and bogeyed the last hole to back into a tie with Scott Gump at nine-under-par 135.

Gump, an early starter, had a five-under 67 to Hjertstedt’s 68, reversing their first-round scores.
