Fiset Returns but Storr to Face Avalanche

The Kings are whole in goal again, and perhaps it’s apropos that it comes just in time to play the Colorado Avalanche.

No. 1 goalie Stephane Fiset has been declared healthy again, after three bouts with groin injuries, the first of which occurred in the third period of a game against the Avalanche on Oct. 18.

“I don’t want to think about injuries,” Fiset said Friday. “It’s the new year. I don’t want to think about getting hurt any more. I’ve been so frustrated.”

Fiset, an Avalanche alumnus, relishes playing against Colorado--”They still have many of the guys I played with at Quebec,” he said. “I have good memories of Colorado. We won the [Stanley] Cup.”--but probably won’t get a chance tonight.

Jamie Storr has been in goal during a streak in which he has given up only six goals while the Kings have won four of five.

“Jamie deserves to play,” Coach Larry Robinson said. “What’s the old saying? If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.”

To accommodate Fiset’s return from the injured reserve list, goalie Manny Legace was sent back to Long Beach of the IHL.

Winger Dan Bylsma said playing tonight might help him, “because when you’re out there and there are people coming at you, there are lots of things to think about.

“If I wasn’t playing, I would keep waiting and watching.”

That’s because wife Mary Beth will go to a Torrance hospital tonight, where labor will be induced for her to have the couple’s first child, a boy.
