* How the teams got there: Tennessee won the Southeastern Conference East division title, beat Mississippi State in the SEC championship game and finished No. 1 in the bowl championship series rankings. Florida State was co-champion of the Atlantic Coast Conference and captured the No. 2 spot in the BCS after UCLA and Kansas State lost Dec. 5.

* The game: It should be a low-scoring affair dominated by the defenses. Florida State ranks No. 1 nationally, first against the pass, second against the run, and Tennessee has the 17th-ranked defense. Tennessee has the edge at quarterback in junior Tee Martin, who threw for 19 touchdowns and ran for seven.
