Newport-Mesa Unified School District board member Dana Black is starting a campaign to stop what she sees as a war against public education. Black, a first-term board member, said she is tired of media emphasis on the negative aspects of the school district, as well as attacks on public education by those who support vouchers and private schools: “I want to call it a crusade. There’s so many positive things going on in public education. I want to show the good.”

The crusade also is partially aimed at curtailing efforts by those who support taxpayer-funded vouchers for private schools and home schooling.
