Michigan doesn’t have a wide body like Robert Traylor anymore. Still, the Wolverines found enough gritty post play to beat Indiana.

Louis Bullock scored 20 points and Josh Asselin had 16 points and 10 rebounds, his first double-double, as Michigan held off the 13th-ranked Hoosiers for an 82-70 victory Tuesday night at Ann Arbor, Mich.

“If we step up and play aggressive in the front court, we can play with anybody,” said Asselin, who fouled out with 1:53 to play. “I was going to do whatever I had to do to help us win.”

With the 300-pound Traylor waiting for the NBA lockout to end, the Wolverines, 8-8 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten, rotate Asselin, Peter Vignier and Brandon Smith down low in a three-guard offense.

Smith had 11 points, seven rebounds and a blocked shot. Vignier, Michigan’s biggest player at 6 feet 11 and 255 pounds, added nine points and a block.

Indiana (14-4, 1-2) went nearly 10 minutes without a basket after closing to 45-42.

No. 6 Kentucky 68, South Carolina 61--Scott Padgett scored 19 points to help the Wildcats (13-3, 2-0) hold off the Gamecocks (5-8, 0-2) in a Southeastern Conference game at Columbia, S.C.

South Carolina guard BJ McKie finished with a season-high 31 points on a nearly perfect shooting night: seven of nine overall, including five of six on three-point shots, and 12 of 14 on free throws.

No. 20 Syracuse 74, Villanova 52--Ryan Blackwell scored a career-high 25 points and had 16 rebounds to lead the Orangemen (11-3, 3-2) over the Wildcats (10-4, 1-3) in a Big East game at Philadelphia.

No. 21 Clemson 80, North Carolina State 72--Harold Jamison scored 25 points to lead the Tigers (12-3, 1-1) over the Wolfpack (10-4, 1-2) in an Atlantic Coast Conference game at Clemson, S.C.
