UC Irvine 71, North Texas 59--It took a while for the Anteaters (5-6) to turn away the Golden Eagles (0-11) in the Big West opener for both teams before 1,278 at the Bren Center.
Marek Ondera, who had 19 points and 12 rebounds, had a dunk on a fastbreak to give Irvine a 65-57 lead with 2:39 left.
North Texas missed all of its three-point shots in trying to narrow the deficit.
Ondera made eight of 10 shots, including three dunks.
Irvine shot 48% while North Texas shot 33%.
