Arraignment Reset for Suspect in Buried Body Case

A Stanton man suspected of killing his mother and burying her in their backyard made his first court appearance Friday in the Justice Center in Westminster, but his arraignment was postponed until Jan. 22.

Robert Poindexter, 62, was arrested after investigators unearthed a body Wednesday from behind the mobile home that Poindexter shared with his mother.

Authorities said the body is believed to be that of the suspect’s mother, Katherine Poindexter, 86, who was last seen in May. A spokesman for the Orange County medical examiner’s office said that pathologists had not completed an autopsy on the body. The cause of death has not been determined as of Friday, officials said.

Sheriff’s Lt. Hector Rivera said that Poindexter has been charged with murder and is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail. He had been taken into custody Wednesday for warrants stemming from unpaid traffic citations.

“The investigation is still continuing,” Rivera said. “There are still a number of questions that we’re trying to get answers to.”
