Friday is the deadline to submit student applications for the Los Angeles Unified School District’s magnet schools and centers or the Permits With Transportation (PWT) program for the 1999-2000 school year.

Application brochures were mailed in early December to parents of all students currently enrolled in kindergarten through 11th grade. Families who may not have received one, those who have recently moved into the district or those attending private school within LAUSD boundaries can pick up a copy at their nearest public school or public library.

Students currently enrolled in magnet or PWT programs do not need to reapply if they wish to remain in the same program. However, those who want to change to another school or program must send in a new application.

Students in the PWT program are transported to a school outside their area as part of the district’s voluntary integration program.

Parents will be notified by late February that their application has been received and will learn of their children’s acceptance or waiting-list status sometime in April.

A total of 70,000 applications are expected for an estimated 13,000 to 14,000 openings.

Applications must be received or postmarked by 5 p.m. Friday.
