Mayor to Lead Area Metrolink Board

Simi Valley Mayor Bill Davis on Friday was elected chairman of the five-county regional board that operates Metrolink.
The 71-year-old Davis was unanimously chosen to head the Southern California Regional Rail Authority by its 11-member board of directors.
The regional authority is made up of representatives from transportation agencies in Ventura, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside and Orange counties, and works in concert to address the region’s growing transportation needs.
Davis, a retired automotive industry executive who serves on 20 city and county commissions in Ventura, has been a member of the regional authority since its inception in 1991.
During that time, he has represented the Ventura County Transportation Commission and was instrumental in bringing Metrolink to Southern California in 1992.
Although ridership on the rail line remained scant through its early years, Metrolink now says it is the fastest-growing commuter rail service in the nation.
Davis will head the authority until his term expires in 2000.
