From Staff Reports

Greg Harris, a 15-year major league veteran, has been hired as pitching coach for the Class-A Lancaster JetHawks.

Harris was a pitching coach in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays’ organization the last three seasons, including last year at Class-A St. Petersburg, Fla. He replaces Jim Slaton, who was promoted to Seattle’s Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma after two seasons with the JetHawks.

Harris broke into the big leagues with the New York Mets in 1981. He also pitched for Cincinnati, Montreal, San Diego, Texas, Philadelphia, Boston and the New York Yankees.

Although he pitched in two league championships series and a World Series, Harris is best remembered for pitching left-handed and right-handed for Montreal in a game against Cincinnati on Sept. 28, 1995.

He got two outs right-handed, issued a walk, then recorded the final out left-handed. He was the first ambidextrous pitcher in a major league game since Elton “Ice Box” Chamberlain on May 9, 1888.

Harris joins a JetHawk staff that includes Manager Darrin Garner and hitting coach Dana Williams.
