The life of Greta Garbo will be discussed Friday at Cal Lutheran University.

Karen Swenson, who will host the discussion, conducted interviews around the world to learn about Garbo, said Mary Hekhuis, president of the American Scandinavian Foundation’s Thousand Oaks chapter, which is presenting the lecture at 7:30 p.m. in Room 1 of the Nygreen Building.

Swenson traveled to Sweden, Berlin, Paris, Rome and London to unravel the myth of the legendary actress for her book, “Greta Garbo: A Life Apart.”

“Of the eight biographies on Garbo, this is the most definitive,” Hekhuis said.

Garbo, a silent-film star who made the transition into talkies at a time when many could not, worked with such leading actors as John Gilbert, John Barrymore, Clark Gable and Fredric March. Her film credits include “Flesh and the Devil,” “A Women of Affairs” and “Camille.”
